Evensong

Inspired by Hexham Abbey

Crescendo up, descant down.

35 steps, slowly worn away over the years by the feet of hundreds of choristers and canons, are slowly descended by the scarlet-robed boys and violet-robed girls of the choir.

Voices powerful enough to call angels down from the heavens sing high below the organ; the saints in the glass watching and listening in awe to the heavenly harmonies through the shards of crimson, cornflower, mint and daffodil.

Migration Of Blog

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry about the recent technical difficulties involving my now-inaccessible Google Account. As that meant I couldn't edit my blog (edanosborne.blogspot.com), you probably haven't heard anything  or read any new material lately and I have finally had to resort to a full migration to this new site. Thankfully, this should mean you'll be seeing a lot more of my work. Thanks again!

Planet In Peril Competition

I have received some exciting news! I entered a competition and received the following response:

This is a direct quote from  Isabelle Kenyon of Fly on the wall Press.
She has chosen my poem to be printed in a book called “Planet in Peril”.
All profits will go to charity, namely the World Wildlife Fund and the Climate Coalition.

“Take a stand!” is an excellent piece of work that we have decided to include in the anthology. Individual feedback:
We particularly enjoyed how you managed to incorporate several climate change issues, such as the rising of sea-levels, plastic pollution and expansion of deserts. It almost reads like a manifesto, unapologetic in describing how the planet is suffering, as well as calling for action and involvement. It is a great fit with the aim of our Planet in Peril anthology.

Take A Stand!

Do not think that I am lying, when I say I’m slowly dying;
I’m the world and I am crying, and there is no point in denying...

Gasping, acrid gas and smoke; drapes my body like a cloak;
squeezing life to slowly choke; I speak the truth, this is no joke.

No-more, the green and pleasant land; sun-scorched scar of desert
sand; it’s time for you to take a stand; my future lies within your
hands.

It burns my soul, it boils my blood; you’ll see my tears bring on the
flood; if only I were understood; you can help me, if only you would!

My tears will fall and oceans rise; more tears are falling from the
skies; some think that these are wicked lies; believe in me, real are
my cries.

No oceans blue, dead skeleton reef; plastic hell beyond belief; help
me out, turn a new leaf; put an end to all this grief.

I’m cracking under pressure and shaking to the core; stop this
global warming – I can’t take any more; please help us to take
action, and we will win the war; you must help your world, or
your world will be no more...

First Page

Today, I have posted my first poem, Equinox. It has won my school's poetry competition and, well, I hope you enjoy it! Thanks!

Equinox

The sharpening steel, a winter’s spark.

Slowly but surely, a bright flame illuminates the canopy and,
as the alchemy begins, a myriad of sparks are cast into the starry sky.

A blaze erupts, warmth wrapping around me like a python,
making me blush and blink smoke out of my eyes.

The sun is setting, bathing the landscape in fire and
emphasising my wall of flames.

Silhouetted mysteries grow tall on the ground,
stretching west like ancient druids, blessing the new moon,

Welcoming the Spring Solstice!
